Live Music Week

Staff from Shropshire Music Service have had a marvellous week touring around the county to deliver Live Music Week. This year, our programme featured a rock and pop band, a folk band and a wind and strings ensemble. We’ve covered 36 schools in one week, travelling from Bridgnorth to Bryn Offa via Selattyn, and Market Drayton to Morville via Clun!

Our folk band took children on a journey round the world too. From Africa to America, across the shores of Ireland and Scotland, the programme featured well-loved folk classics passed from one generation to another.

The wind and strings group covered as many styles and genres as they possibly could: from the classical In the Hall of the Mountain King by Grieg to smash hits including The Weeknd’s Blinding Lights. Everyone agreed that the final rousing number – George Ezra’s Green Green Grass – was the ear worm of the week!

Our rock and pop band treated audiences to all the latest hits. Community singing was obligatory (along with dancing too), especially for their rendition of Dua Lipa’s Dance the Night. You can take a sneak peak of their performance here.

Our huge thanks to all the schools who hosted us and made us feel so welcome. We’re delighted that many more children want to learn an instrument because of Live Music Week. Don’t forget, you can play this music every week of the year at one of our many ensembles: folk, pop, orchestral, there’s something for everyone.
